Moore Greece at the ESG Shipping Awards 2024 The Conference

The ESG Shipping Awards 2024 THE CONFERENCE, a landmark event for the maritime industry's ESG leaders, succesfully concluded on October 18th, 2024 in Athens and Moore Greece had the opportunity to participate in this inspiring and successful event.
The conference brought together over 350 key industry leaders, experts, and stakeholders from around the world, serving as a vital platform for knowledge sharing and advancing sustainability efforts within the shipping sector. It fostered discussions on challenges, future opportunities, and essential partnerships, highlighting the importance of collaboration in advancing ESG principles within the shipping industry.
Costas Constantinou, Managing Partner, Global Maritime Leader, Moore moderated  moderated a panel focused on Governance & Ethics, Responsible Corporate Culture, and ESG Reporting.
Following the insightful panel discussion on Governance at the ESG Shipping Awards 2024 The Conference, Costas Constantinou, Moore Greece, shares some of the key takeaways that emerged during the session.
“Many interesting points came out of the panel discussion on Governance, which I had the pleasure of facilitating: the first point is the necessity of management to believe in the value of governance and to lead by example. Equally important is the engagement of all people across all ranks and roles to create a culture of ethical conduct and honest communication. The last point, but a very significant one, is that Governance has a very observable monetary value: companies that can demonstrate robust governance structures (a) are better protected against risks and their potential resulting monetary losses, (b) they can seek business in the league of more sophisticated business partners who have the same expectations, and (c) they can attract and retain talent much more effectively.”
In the last panel discussion moderated by Mr. Costas Constantinou, Managing Partner, Global Shipping Leader at Moore Greece, Ms. Eri Tsironi, Navios Maritime Partners L.P. emphasized the importance of a majority-independent board and dedicated committees for audit and compensation. Ms. Georgia Fardellou, Starbulk Carriers Corp. noted the establishment of an ESG committee and highlighted that "Our ESG Report outlines our company’s ESG goals, achievements, and future commitments. We strive for transparency in our reporting by providing to our stakeholder’s publicly available, easily accessible, and clear information of our ESG performance. We also seek for external assurance by an independent party to verify our ESG data and report, which ensures credibility". Ms. Korinna Tapaktsoglou FCCA Tapaktsoglou, Pioneer Marine, underscored the need for compliance with best practices and open communication to build trust within the organization.
